Expert Stair Installation
Your Staircase Is the First Thing People See
In most Utah homes, the staircase is the architectural centerpiece — the first impression when guests walk through the front door, and the one element that sets the tone for the entire interior. A staircase covered in worn, dated carpet does a disservice to even a beautifully renovated home.
Pine River Construction has been installing custom stairs throughout Salt Lake County, Utah County, Summit County, and Wasatch County for over 30 years. Bob Price and his sons Wes, Jay, and Derek understand that stairs require a higher level of precision than flat floor installations — rise-and-run geometry must be exact, nosing depth must be consistent, and finishes must hold up to concentrated foot traffic.

Seamless Integration
Matching Your Stairs to Your Floors — and Park City Luxury Work
One of the most common questions we get is whether stair treads can be matched to existing hardwood floors. The answer is almost always yes — we source matching species, match the stain color through careful sample testing, and apply the same finish type used on your floors. The goal is always a staircase that looks like it was always there.
We've completed some of our most impressive stair projects in Park City and Summit County, where luxury homeowners demand the highest finish levels — floating stairs, cantilevered treads, cable rail with glass panels, custom iron work. If you're building or renovating a high-end home in the Park City area, Pine River has the experience and craftsmanship to match your vision.
Common Questions
Custom Stair Installation FAQ
Yes — this is one of our most popular projects. We remove the carpet and padding, assess the structure underneath, and install new hardwood treads and risers. It's one of the highest-impact renovations you can do to a Utah home for the investment.
Treads are the horizontal surfaces you step on. Risers are the vertical boards that fill the space between treads. Treads take much more wear and are made from harder, thicker material. Risers are typically painted white or stained to match the tread, depending on the design.
A standard carpet-to-wood conversion takes 2 to 4 days. Full stair replacement with new railing systems takes longer — typically 1 to 2 weeks depending on complexity. We provide a clear timeline with every estimate.
Neither is universally better — it's a design decision. Closed risers look traditional, solid, and work well in any home style. Open risers look modern and airy, letting light pass through. Open risers require code-compliant spacing and specific structural support. We'll walk you through both options during your estimate.
Yes. We source the same species and site-finish treads to match your floor stain color. We always test stain on a sample piece before cutting the full run to ensure the match is as close as possible. In many cases, the result is seamless.
Every tread must be cut to precise width for the specific rise and run geometry of your staircase. Nosing depth must be consistent across every step for both aesthetics and code compliance. Stair treads also take significantly more concentrated impact per square inch than floor boards — which is why material choice and installation method matter so much.
