Expert Floor Repair
Don't Replace What Can Be Repaired
Too many Utah homeowners are told their floors need to be torn out and replaced when a skilled repair crew could restore them for a fraction of the cost. Pine River Construction has been repairing hardwood floors throughout Salt Lake County, Utah County, Summit County, and Wasatch County for over 30 years.
We built this business on honest assessment: we look at every damaged floor without assuming a sale, identify the root cause, and tell you straight whether repair, refinishing, or replacement is the right call. More often than not, the floor you think is ruined just needs the right crew.

Specialty Skills
The Art of Stain Matching & Subfloor Repair
One of the most challenging aspects of floor repair is matching the stain color on a repaired section to the original floor. Old floors develop patina, UV fading, and surface oxidation that can't be perfectly replicated by a fresh stain. After 30+ years, the Price family has developed deep expertise in custom stain blending — starting with base stains and layering pigments until we achieve the closest possible match. We always test on scrap material first.
We also repair subfloor issues that cause problems down the line: delaminated plywood, sagging joists, moisture-damaged OSB, squeaky nail pops, and inadequate fastening. The most important surface in any flooring project is the one you can't see — and we address it first.
Common Questions
Hardwood Floor Repair FAQ
Often yes. If the moisture source is identified and eliminated, many cupped floors will flatten over time as they dry. Severe cupping may need sanding to level the surface once the floor has stabilized. We always identify and address the moisture cause first — sanding a still-wet floor leads to crowning.
Small seasonal gaps in Utah are normal and often close on their own in summer. Persistent or large gaps can be filled with color-matched wood filler, or in severe cases, boards can be removed, re-racked, and re-fastened. We determine whether the gapping is seasonal or structural before recommending any repair.
In many cases, yes — especially when the water exposure was short-term. We've saved floors that looked destroyed after appliance leaks or pipe bursts. Long-term water exposure with subfloor damage is harder to save, but we always assess before recommending replacement.
We blend custom stain formulations and test on scrap material until we achieve the closest possible match to your existing floor. After 30+ years, we've developed strong expertise in this. UV fading may prevent a perfect match on very old floors, but we always get as close as the floor allows.
Almost always yes, and often significantly so. Even complex board-level repairs combined with refinishing typically cost far less than tearing out and replacing a full floor. We'll give you both options with pricing during your free estimate so you can make the decision that's right for your situation.
Cupping (edges higher than center) is caused by the bottom of the board absorbing more moisture than the top — common with damp crawl spaces, slab moisture, or plumbing leaks. Crowning (center higher than edges) results from surface moisture or from sanding a cupped floor before it has fully dried. Both require addressing the moisture source first.
